A 4500 kg helicopter accelerates upward at 2.0 m/s2. What lift force is exerted by the air on the propellers? Make sure you draw a FBD and write Fnet = ma to begin this solution.

W = weight

 

F = L - W = ma

 

L = ma + W = ma + mg = m(a + g)

 

L = (4500 kg) * (2.0 + 9.8) m/s² = 53100 N
