solve for the valve of x and y. x + (x + y)i = 3 + 8i

please help me to solve for the x and y value or help me by telling on hoe to start solving it.

x + (x + y)i = 3 + 8i

I am going to take a guess that the variables and constants connected to the imaginary number of i, are part of one group.  Whereas the x and 3, which are not connected to imaginary numbers, are part of the other group.

 

(x+y)i=8i

x+y=8

 

x=3

 

3+y=8

y=5
