A shopper in a supermarket pushes a cart with a force of 31 N directed at an angle of 25° downward from the horizontal. Find the work done by the shopper as she moves down a 42 m length of aisle.

The work done by the force is expressed by the dot product of the force with the displacement vector because only the component of the force that is along the displacement vector results in work being done.

 

W = 31N * 42m * cos 25 = 3180 Joules
