If 50% chose pizza, and the percentages total 100%, then 30 who chose pizza is half of the total of students.  This means that there are a total of 60 students in the class.

 

To find how many students chose hamburgers, we find the number that is 30% of 60.

 

(30/100)(60) = (15/50)(60)

                    = (3/10)(60)

                    = 3*6

                    = 18

 

This means that 18 students chose hamburgers.
