Start with the left hand side

 

sin x / cos x ( cos x + cos x / sin x)

 

 

= ( sin x cos x ) / cos x + ( sin x cos x ) / sin x cos x

 

= sin x + 1

 

Left hand side is equal to the right hand side so we have proven the identity.
