√(5-x)=2x
square both sides; now you have 5-x=4x2
or 4x2 +x -5 = 0
Factor: (4x+5)(x-1) = 0
which appears to have two roots (zeros): 1 and -5/4.
Obviously the latter of these does NOT satisfy the original equation. The other one (1) is the solution.
