How many tiles do I need around a pool?

A pool is being built in a new student rec center at Falcon Community College. The pool is designed to be a 60 ft by 26 ft rectangle, and the deck around the pool is going to be lined with slate tiles that are 1 ft squareds. how many tiles are needed? (This is not quite as easy as it seems at first...)

Two cases:

 

1) the tiles are installed inside the rectangle

2) the tiles are installed outside the rectangle

 

Assumption for both cases: each tile is a square 1ft x 1ft and the deck's width is 1ft

 

Case 1:

 

For one side 60ft long you need 60 tiles

For the other 60ft long side you need the same amount.

 

For one side 26ft long you need 26-2 tiles

For the other 26ft long side you need the same amount.

 

Do the rest.

 

Case 2:

For one side 60ft long you need 60+2 tiles
For the other 60ft long side you need the same amount.

For one side 26ft long you need 26 tiles
For the other 26ft long side you need the same amount.
