Question

Two fifteenths of the 630 students at Dillon Middle School are on a sports team. Of those on a sports team, 1/4 play basketball.  Three-sevenths of the basketball players are girsl.

 

A. How many girls play on the Dillon basktball team?

 

B. How many boys play on the Dillon basketball team?

Answer 1

2/15 (630) = 1260/15 = 84 students on a sports team 

 

1/4 (84) = 84/4 = 21 play basketball

 

3/7 (21) = 63/7 = 9 basketball players are girls

 

So 21 - 9 = 12 basketball players are boys
