I am having a very difficult time with these equations. Please show every step needed to figure this out. I have been doing this now for about 6 hours and STILL cannot figure it out! The problem should read
x-4y =8
-x +4y-8=0
x-4y =8
-x +4y-8=0

x + 4y =8
-x + 4y =8
Apply elimination process
x = 8 - 4y
Substitute in second equation
-(8 - 4y) + 4y = 8
-8 + 8y = 8
8y + 16
y = 2
Substitute y = 2 in any of the given equations
x + 4(2) = 8
x + 8 = 8
x =0

Following up on my comment, all the points on the line y=1/4 x are solutions to the original equation(s).
There are infinitely many solutions.

Hi Vicki;
x-4y=8-x+4y-8=0
First, let's notice the 8 and -8. These cancel...
x-4y=-x+4y=0
The second equation is the negative of the first.
x-4y=0
-x+4y=0
