(x-1)^1/2(x-3)+3(x-1)^1/2=0

(x - 1)^-1/2(x - 3) + 3(x - 1)^1/2 = 0

(x - 3) + 3(x - 1) = 0                    multiply both sides by (x - 1)^1/2

x - 3 + 3x - 3 = 0                         distribute

4x - 6 = 0                                    combine

4x = 6                                         add 6 to both sides

x = 1.5                                        divide both sides by 4
