Hi Eve, you still have to find the LCD. The second approach is the easiest one, multiply the entire equation by:

(4.5 * 3 * x), which will remove all fractions. You will end up with: 3x + 4.5x = 3 * 4.5.

To find the LCD you will have to find some multiple of 4.5 and 3 that each will divide into. In this case it is 9. 4.5 divides into 9 and 3 divides into 9.

The LCD becomes 9 and the new equation becomes:

1 / 4.5 * 2 / 2 + 1 / 3 + 3 / 3 = 1 / x

2 / 9 + 3 / 9 = 1 / x

5 / 9 = 1 / x

Cross multiply gives x = 9 / 5.
