Now make fractions and turn them into decimals.

Monday 144/250 = 0.576

Tuesday 125/220 = 0.568

 

The decimal for Monday is higher than the decimal for Tuesday, so this one has the greatest fraction.

Without using a calculator, start with something you know:

1/2 > 1/4 because using cross products from left to right 1x4 > 2x1.

Now that you have the rule, simplify the fraction so that you have 72/125 and 5/9. 72x9 > 5x125, so:

72/125 or 144/250 as given in the problem is the larger amount or quantity.
