I think the point of this assignment seems to be to channel Holden's personality in your writing and to demonstrate you understand his character. Holden is a troubled soul who despises people who are not authentic, which is why he resents adulthood so much. He believes adults are fake. He wants time to stop, so he can resist crashing into adulthood (and all that entails) and also hold onto the beauty he sees in the world without it fading. When you write from this perspective, hold on to these aspects of Holden's personality. He has a tendency to rant, to be judgmental on things he doesn't agree with. I think it would be interesting for him to write to someone he believes exhibits these traits of being fake, some adult who pretends to be someone he or she is not. Or, a completely random idea, write to someone who has managed to hold on to that childlike, innocent state, like Peter Pan, who was also going through a reluctance to grow up. I would be happy to look at your letter, if you need a little extra help!
