8÷2(2+2) ??

Is the answer 1 using pemdas?

8÷2(2+2)
 
PEMDAS: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction
 
1.  Parenthesis
     8÷ 2(4)
 
2.  Exponents... None
 
3.  Multiplication/Division ... Left to right as encountered
    4(4)
    16
 
At this point we have the final answer, 16
 
Note:  The confusion with PEMDAS is that it is not multiplication before division,
but instead you do multiplication & division left to right as encountered.
The same with addition & subtraction.  That is why we do the 8÷2 before the
2(4)

Also note:  the multiplication is implied.  This expression is the same as:  8/2*(2+2)
