One laptop computer has 5.5 times the storage capacity of another. Together they can store 65 gbytes of information. What is the storage capacity of each laptop computer

Let x be the storage on the computer with less storage

So the computer with more storage has 5.5x storage

Together they total x+5.5x=65 gbytes

 

Solve for x

 

x+5.5x=65

6.5x=65

divide both sides by 6.5

x=10

 

The smaller computer has 10 gbytes storage capacity because x represented the smaller computer storage

The larger storage is 5.5 times that so the larger storage capacity is 55
