Sponges belong to the phylum known as Porifera. They do not have a nervous system. That means they do not have brains. They have no hearts to pump blood to other parts of their bodies. They have no muscles, so they cannot move. They only grow in one location. Their bodies are composed of a jelly-like layer between two thin layers of cells. They get nutrients by absorbing water through their pores.
