Let n be the middle number of three consecutive even integers. Write an expression for the sum of these integers.

Answer 1

"consecutive even integers" differ by 2 from the next/previous one.  For example:   6, 8, 10.

 

You may assign a variable to any of the three values and write expressions for the others.

  Either:

       x  (x+2)  (x+4)

      (y-2)   y    (y+2)

      (z-4)   (z-2)   z

 

The expressions (not necessarily an equation) for the sum of the three values are:

      3x + 6

      3y

      3z - 6
