The problem you are working is 3550 divided by $3.55.
To divide by a decimal, you move the decimal to the right until it's a whole number. So you will move the decimal to the right two spaces.To make this 'fair' or 'equal', you have to move the decimal of the other number to the right two spaces.
So you take 3.55 and change it to 355. You take 3550 [also can be written as 3550.00] and change it to 355,000
355,000 divided by 355 is 1000.
