Solving a percent mixture problem

Question

A scientist mixes water (containing no salt) with a solution that contains 40% salt. She wants to obtain 240 ounces of a mixture that is 20% salt. How many ounces of water and how many ounces of the 40% salt solution should she use?

You can set this up as follows:

 

.4(x)=240(.2)  where x is the amount of 40% salt solution she should use and 240-x is the amount of water. 

 

But you honestly don't even need an equation for this one. If you want 240 ounces of something that is 20% salt and you need to mix something that is 0% salt and something that is 40% salt, then using half of each gives you 20% salt.
