Question

two hanger rods are connected to a box beam that supports a concrete deck. Forces acting on the rods sometimes push in the same direction and sometimes push in opposite directions.  The forces x and y can be found by solving the equations.  x+y=120. X-y=70.

Just solve the system of 2 equations in 2 unknowns:

 

x + y = 120

x - y = 70

 

Solving, get:

 

2x = 190 ⇒ x = 95

x - y = 95 - y = 70 ⇒ y = 25
