Use the zero product property to find the solutions to the equation (x + 2) (x + 3) = 12.

    (x + 2)(x + 3) = 12

 

Multiplying using FOIL.

 

           x² + 5x + 6 = 12

    x² + 5x + 6 - 12 = 0

           x² + 5x --6 = 0

        (x - 1)(x + 6) = 0

 

So using the zero product property,

 

       x - 1 = 0

             x = 1

 

       or

       x + 6 = 0

             x = -6

 

Solutions are 1 and -6
