In a generator (AC or DC), what happens if we use a radial magnetic field, does the induced current become purely DC? If so, is it in use anywhere?

The field being radial has no impact on whether the current is AC or DC.  What matters is the time rate of change of magnetic flux, regardless of the geometry of the field, since that is what causes induced current.  The AC or DC nature of the resulting current will reflect the time-varying nature of the magnetic flux.
