Two angles are complimentary when these add-up to 90-degrees.

x=larger angle

x-35=smaller angle

(x)+(x-35)=90

x+x-35=90

2x-35=90

Let's add 35 to both sides as we proceed to isolate x...

2x-35+35=90+35

2x=125

Let's divide both sides by 2...

(2x)/2=125/2

x=62.5

Let's check our work...

(x)+(x-35)=90

(62.5)+(62.5-35)=90

62.5+27.5=90

90=90

Answer is 62.5 degrees.

Since they are complementary, the angles add up to 90°.

 

If S is the smaller angle and L is the larger angle

 

S + L = 90°

 

But L is 35° larger than S

 

S + (S + 35°) = 90°

 

S + S = 90° - 35° = 55°
