The answer depends on what you're scaling. For example, if you have a sphere, which is given by the formula: V = 4/3 pi r^3, and you scale the radius then you're volume will increase proportionally to r^3, so if you double the radius the volume will increase 8 fold.
However, if you have a rectangular prism given by the formula V = length * width * height, and you scale the height, the volume will only increase proportionally to the height.
