"and 72 km on Wednesday"   means      72 km

 

Monday       +     Tuesday      +    Wednesday      =    total

(2/5)x         +        (3/10)x     +       72 km         =    x

 

   4x           +        3x             +       720 km       = 10x       

      [multiply all values by LCM=10 to get rid of fractions]

   7x  + 720 km = 10x        [collect terms]

          720 km  =  3x         [subtract 7x from both sides]

         240 km = x         [divide both sides by 3]
