Question

There is a swimming pool, there are 1m^2 tiles surrounding it, how many tiles will it take up to fill up the spaces if the side length of the square swimming pull is 8m?

If only one band of tiles is placed around the periphery of the square swimming pool (i.e. just a band one tile in width rather than a full deck), then you would need 4 times 8 of these tiles along each side, plus four more at each corner; total 36 tiles.
