Help please

Question

I have to express the equation in slope-intercept form. Without graphing the equations, I have to state whether the system of equation has exactly one solution, no solution, or an infinitive number of solutions. 

 

x+y=5

x+y=-1

Answer 1

y= -x +5

 

y=-x -1

 

Since the equations have the same slope and different y intercepts they are parallel lines and thus have no solutions.

 

(Makes intuitive sense because the sum of two numbers can't be equal to different numbers at the same time).
