for 12x^2-14x-6 first divide by 2
2(6x^2-7x-3) now find the roots (since the middle value and the last value are negative one of the constants must be a negative. the factors of 6x^2 can be 1x and 6x or 2x and 3x and the factors of -3 can be 1- and 3 or -3 and 1. The only combination that will yeild the middle factor of -7x would be 2x, -3 and 3x, +1.
