Would my function be •f(x,y)= (x, y+2)?

Question

I was asked to reflect a triangle over the x axis and I did. Then it asked me to write the function that describes the transformation • f(x,y) • My triangle only reflected 2 up so (y+2) but didn't move any units from x. Would my function be •f(x,y)= (x, y+2) ? Please help me on this!

If you are reflecting any point (x,y) over the x axis then the x coordinate does not change but the new y coordinate becomes the negative of the old y coordinate so the transformation is (x,y) --> (x,-y).  

 

The transformation (x,y) --> (x,y+2) describes a translation up 2 units, not a reflection.
