can someone give me some examples of what action and the force of what can stop a car

One situation is when you step on the brakes.  This causes the car to stop moving.  The brakes acts a friction force.

 

Another situation is when a car runs out of gas.  Cars need fuel to operate.  Unless you have an electrically charged car, then the car battery losing charge will cause the car to stop.
