A student finds an image during their lens lab. They notice that the image is larger and inverted compare to the original.
Is the image real or virtual?

How do you know?

Where is the object located compared to the focal length of the lens?

The image is real. Diverging lenses produce smaller (compared to the object)upright virtual images . Converging lenses can produce virtual images, but they are larger than the object and are upright. The inverted image is therefore real and is  produced by a converging lens. Furthermore, the object is located at a distance between the focal length and twice the focal length.
