Understanding Math from any perspective
First of all, am I doing all your assignment? Ok, so to answer the last question, NO. now, why? The simple answer is that the additional 40% is calculated with a different base number. If it was 40% more off the original, then it would be 50%, but it is 40% additional, off the already discounted price. So, simply, the first sale price is 10% off of 60.00. you can look at this either of two ways, how much the discount is and then subtract from the original price, or how much the sale price is compared to the original price. The discount amount is 60.00 times 10%, or 6.00, subtracted from 60.00 gives 54.00. Or, you can look at it as being 10% less than 100%, which is 90% and multiply that by 60.00 and get the same answer. That is the first sale price. The next sale price is 40%less. choosing either way, you get 54.00 times 60% is 32.40, or you could multiply 54.00 by 0.4 and then subtract, either way. as you can see, 32.40 is not 30.00, so it is not the same as 50% off, or half.
