did I answer this question correctly?

If you are told only that you scored in the 80th percentile, do you know from that description exactly how it was calculated? Explain

No I would not know how it was calculated. In order for me to calculate how I scored in the 80th percentile I would also need to know the number of students who took the test as well. Without that I can not plug it into the proper equation.

Mark M.

You need to know the mean, standard deviation, and your score.
z = (X - μ) / σ
The z-score gives the percentile.

Lindsay D.

I'm sorry but when going over the chapter there is no equation like the one you provided. So far the only equations I have gone over with percentiles looks like

           p
R=    ---- x (n+1)
         100
