If you are told only that you scored in the 80th percentile, do you know from that description exactly how it was calculated? Explain
No I would not know how it was calculated. In order for me to calculate how I scored in the 80th percentile I would also need to know the number of students who took the test as well. Without that I can not plug it into the proper equation.

80th percentile means z score = 1.282 as 20% scored higher
use z tables
then 1.282 = (x - x bar)/sd
x -xbar = 1.282sd
x = your score = 1.282sd + xbar
sd = standard deviation = sqrVariance
xbar = mean = 50th percentile
