How many weeks are in a year?

To change the units without changing the value, we use the Multiplicative Identity (that is, 1).

 

For this problem, we need:

      1  =   (52 weeks) / (1 year) = (1 year) / (52 weeks)        [choose appropriate value]

 

[Note:  Although not precise, we assume 52 weeks per year.]

 

You spend:

    "two hours a week singing for three years"

      (2 hours per week) * (3 years)

      ((2 hours)/(1 week)) * (3 years)

      ((2 hours)/(1 week)) * (3 years) * 1

      ((2 hours)/(1 week)) * (3 years) * ((52 weeks)/(1 year))

      (2/1)*(3)*(52/1)  hours                  [Note: weeks and years cancel]
