   If 4-3a=7-2(2a+5), evaluate 3a² - 2.

 

                                 4-3a=7-2(2a+5)

Distribute the -2:        4-3a=7-4a-10

combine like terms:      4-3a=-3-4a

Add 4a both sides:     4 -3a + 4a =-3 -4a+4a

                                     4 + a = -3

Add -4 both sides:               a = -7

 

evaluate 3a² - 2.

Substitute a= -7 into the expression:  3a² - 2

                                                       3(-7)² -2

                                                       3(49) -2

                                                        147 -2

                                                          145
