A day without Math is like a day without sunshine!
Hi Victor,
find the equation of the function from
(-2,5) and (1,4)
y - y1 = m(x -x1)
(-2,5) and (1,4)
y - y1 = m(x -x1)
To find the slope m, y2-y1/(x2-x1)
Let (-2,5)=(x1,y1) and (1,4)=(x2,y2), then substitute into formula.
m= 4-5/1-(-2)
= -1/3
Then the equation in point slope formula is: y - y1 = m(x -x1)
y - y1 = -1/3(x -x1)
substitute in a point y - 5 = -1/3(x - -2)
y - 5 = -1/3(x + 2) this is point-slope form
if you were asked to find the slope in slope-intercept form (y=mx+b), the equation would be:
y - 5 = -1/3(x + 2)
y - 5 = -1x/3 -2/3
y - 5 = -1x/3 -2/3
adding 5 to both sides y= -1x/3+13/3
Hope this helps you understand the process.
