Hi Amanda...lets give this a try by substitution method
4x + 3y =1 x=1-y ----> Put in for x
4(1-y) + 3y =1
4- 4y +3y =1
4 -y =1
-4 -4
______________
-y = -3
-1 -y =-3 Multiply thru by minus 1
Y =3
Solve for X Put 3 in for Y
4x + 3(3) =1
4x + 9 =1
-9 -9
________________________
4x =-8
____ ___
4 4
X=-2
X=1 -y
-2 =1 -3
-2 = -2
Hope this helps!
