You want to find the points where the denominator vanishes, those points are not included in the domain because the f(x) does not exist at those points.
x2 -5x +4 =
(x -4)(x - 1) = 0
x-4 = 0 or x - 1 = 0
x = 4, x =1
The domain of f(x) is (-∞, 1)U(1, 4)U(4, ∞)
