Let

x = number of freshman students

y = number of sophomore students

 

x + y = 1050

x = 30+2y

 

From the first equation  y = 1050 - x plug it into the second equation

 

x = 30 + 2(1050 -x)

   = 30 +2100 -2x

3x = 2130

x=710

There are 710 freshmen
