Legumes are protein or provide protein in the diet, their protein content is plant protein and therefore, they are also included in vegetable section of Myplate.
However, legume protein is incomplete implying that it does not provide all the essential amino acids and therefore, variety of legumes and beans are essential for complete nutrition. That is another reason for including them in vegetable section.
