How could this be? Doesn't a pitching prospect compare himself to Randy Johnson or Bob Gibson? I think people OFTEN evaluate their abilities comparing to others.
When it comes to opinions, perhaps people are not always so introspective. The current political mess might be due to too many people NOT evaluating in comparison to others (too many people seem to be set in their petty ideologies).
Or perhaps some governmental agency should conduct a costly survey, and then the responses would be subjected to statistical academic pseudo-mathematical analysis.
The statement is a generalization; I've heard that "all generalizations are false, including this one.!"
