Not my area of specialty but if you can get someone intrinsicly motivated, they will work incredibly hard. They will work harder for what they want than any external reward someone can offer them. You can have a positive attitude and not achieve a goal. You can be achievement oriented and not achieve a goal. But if you are intrinsicly motivated, you will persist longer even if you fail the first time. Just my take on it, but I'm not a social psych expert. I only have an MEd.
