I am trying to figure out this story problem.

I am not sure if I did this correctly. I came up with 250 more boys than girls.

 

3/8 were adult so 5/8 were children. 5/8 - 3/8 = 1/4 or 180. 1/8 =90 × 8 =720 total amount of guests. 5/8 = 450 the total amount of children. 7:2 = 3.5:1 convenient ratio 350 boys +100 girls =450 350 - 100 (boys-girls)=250 solution.

b=250+g

3/8 adults 5/8 children

720 = total persons

3/8 of 720 = 270 adults

5/8 of 720 = 450 children

if b and g include adults or children then

720 = 250+g + g = 2g +250

2g = 720-250 = 470

g = 235 girls

b = 720-235 = 485 boys

but if b&g only refer to children

then b=250+g

450 = 250+2g

2g = 200

g = 100, b=350
