Otto spent 3/4 of the money he had saved on a new video game. If the video game cost $48, how much money did he have before he bought the game?

You can also GE your answer by dividing what he had by 3 because it is made up if 3/4 then add that number to 48 get 4/4. So 48 divided by 3 is 16. Then 48 + 16 gives you 64, the amount he had before he spent 3/4 of his money.

3/4 is also .75
If 48 is .75 of what he had, just divide:
48/.75 = 64
He had 64$

Hi William . I did the math a different way . If used in similar problems would the way I did it always be correct or is this a lucky case where it happened to work out. Please let me know I would love to get your opinion on this topic. Thanks

Michael-
There is only one correct answer but many ways to derive it, including yours.  I just used a more explicit approach, basically working through each step, because I thought it would be clearer to see.
Thanks.
