Asked to isolate Y when -7x - y =22

Question

Shouldn't the answer be y= -22 - 7x ? My textbook answer sheet says it equals y= -22 +7x ...

Here's how I solved it step by step:

-7x - y = 22

-y= 22+7x

divide both sides by -y:

Y= -22 - 7x

 

What am I doing wrong, please help?

Your solution looks correct to me.  Is it possible you have an incorrect minus sign in your original question? 

 

For example, in order for the solution in the book to be correct, the original equation would have to be:

 

7x-y=22

 

So is there really a minus sign in front of the x?
