First, divide 8 ft into 4 equal parts. You get 4 parts that are 2ft each. So Anthony kept 3/4 of the 8 ft board, or 2+2+2 = 6ft. We have one 2 ft quarter left over. Remember that 2ft = 24 inches. he gave 1/3 of this 2 ft to his brother, so  1/3 of 24 inches is 8 inches.
