I need to know how to come up with the answer of follow the order of operations and simply (-6) +(-8) ?

When you are adding two negative numbers, the result will always be a negative number because you are gaining more negatives.  Think of it this way.  If you have 6 negatives, and I give you 8 more negatives, how negatives do you have in total?

This problem is written (-6) +(-8), but whenever you add a negative number, what you're really doing is simply subtraction. So it should be rewritten -6 - 8. Then you see -6-8 = -14. check it with a number line!
