Algebra perimeter question

Question

A square garden has a side with a length represented by 2/9x. If the perimeter is a total of 48 inches, write and solve your equation below to find the value of x

Note:  x is some variable that the problem wants us to find.

 

The perimeter (P) of a square is 4*side [ or 4*s ].

 

P = 4*s = 48 inches

      4*( (2/9)x ) = 48 inches

      (2/9)x = 12 inches                   [divide both sides by 4]

         x = (12)(9/2) inches             [multiply both sides by 9/2]

         x = 54 inches
