a_n = a₁ + (n - 1)d, where a₁ = first term, a_n = nth term, n = number of terms, d = common difference

 

d = 50.50 - 48

d = 2.5

 

a₆ = a₁ + (6 - 1)(2.5)            2005 is the 6th year.

48 = a₁ + (5)(2.5)

48 = a₁ + 12.5

35.50 = a₁

 

The tickets cast 35.50 in 2000.
