Assume that the line passes through the point (1,−1) and is parallel to the line through the points ( −4,−6) and (5,−5).

Find the equation of this line in slope intercept form.

Parallel lines have the same slope.

 

The slope of the line through (-4,-6) and (5,-5) is

          [-5-(-6)]/[(5-(-4)]=1/9.

 

The line through (1,-1) has equation y - (-1) = (1/9)(x - 1)

 

                                                   y + 1 = (1/9)x - 1/9

 

                                                        y = (1/9)x - 10/9
